BCWax

Bandcamp introduce their “unlabel” BCWax:

Yes, the world still contains a few people who want their music on CD or vinyl simply because it’s CD or vinyl. However, we’re fast approaching the point at which the convenience of digital files is preferred by everyone, and in order to sell, the physical version must offer something the digital does not. It must somehow be made into an object that every one of your fans has to own, has to hold while they listen to your music, and has to show to all of their friends. It must be transformed from a disposable good into something your fans will fetishize.

Their first release is Love. Life. Ukulele. by ukulele player / singer / songwriter Sophie Madeleine.

Congratulations to Bandcamp on a successful first outing, may a lot of beautiful LPs follow! And now music:

vinyl + download

More and more LP’s contain a code for downloading the album as high quality DRM-free mp3′s or lossless files. Some even contain the CD of the album. This is a really sweet solution: You get digital files to put on your mp3 player and vinyl for listening at home.

Why not buy the CD in the first place? Ever since spindles of 50 CD’s were available in every Aldi the CD lost its perceived value. The LP is a much more pleasant / pleasing physical object to own.
